Here is Jack Albery's ships log. 1924 - 1945

Grandad "Jack" was a sailor at quite a young age (according to these passenger records) and he appears to have been 15 when he started sailing. He gave up sailing in his late 20s and worked at the Woolwich Arsenal, then war broke out and he got called up to be a merchant seaman again.

As you can see through 1944/45 he was on the Mauretania, which I understand people didn't mind being on, as that ship was very fast and could out run the U-Boats. Jack was bringing over troops from the US and traveled between Liverpool and New York. My dad told me, that his dad had told him, that all the interior was boarded up so the troops couldn't carve their initials into the wood paneling as it was a prestigious Cunard ship.!
